Welcome to the Amethyst Group website Take one traditional English Narrow Boat transport it to the Canal du Midi in the picturesque Languedoc-Rousillon region of South West France and you have Amethyst. Feeling a little out of place among the hoards of white plastic rental bumper boats, she holds her head up high and enjoys the notoriety. Attracting admiring glances from locals and tourists, she now graces the pages of many a holiday album, 'Le bateau Anglais'. The Amethyst Group comprises of 8 couples all based in the UK, who share the delights of the canal and surrounding Languedoc countryside, enjoying good food, the local wines and the pleasure of meeting old and new friends along the way. Each couple owns a share or half share (there are 7 shares in total) of the boat and makes a monthly contribution to running costs, in return for which we enjoy up to 4 weeks cruising in summer and 2 weeks in winter when the boat is in her winter moorings. Once a year the group meets up for dinner and then gather the following morning for our Annual General Meeting.
